On Monday 27th October Ralf H came to Beacy to run a workshop with us and we had a lot of fun learning Hiromi’s approach to making some bright and colourful tendrils for Art Magic !
..an interesting technique, which felt rather therapeutic….. .. Ralf mentioned ‘neuroplasticity’ during the workshop. It was a very soothing and focussing way of working with textiles, and keeps you ‘in the moment’ calmly and pleasantly. You also end up with some rather surprising creations. Thanks Ralf & Hiromi for sharing this experience with us.
The Wooltarts met in Beaconsfield on Monday 10th November to assemble another branch of the Magic Plant. Anne L-W had excelled herself with a massive amount of beautiful flowers and seed pods, and amazing Anaconda. Old Curtains from between the Beds at the Old Launceston General Hospital – [Low Head] were also used to make these pieces. (See the Closeup photo of the Anaconda’s Head to see the original Stamp. ) All of our creations were delivered to Ralf by 12th November, ready for Hiromi & Ralf to Install.
Anne L-W and Alli B enjoyed helping Hiromi & Ralf assemble the installation on Friday morning (Nov 14th). It was interesting to participate in the process and very moving to hear some of the stories connected to the pieces contributed. Over 300 people from around Launceston have made pieces for the Magic Plant.
Hiromi Tango performed at ReMade and opened the installation of Art Magic on Saturday, 15th November, 2014. Joan was also seen at the opening.
The Magic Plant of Art Magic will be on display for 3 months at QVMAG, 2 Invermay Road, Inveresk.

AN INVITATION TO PARTICIPATE from Interweave Arts
In 2013 Interweave Arts featured Art Magic Seed by Hiromi Tango as part of the Streets Alive 2013 Urban Art Trail. We are excited to build on this work with a broad community-based project utilising Hiromi’s processes and culminating in a collaborative installation at the QVMAG Museum, Inveresk site.
Hiromi Tango creates colourful, immersive art installations that explore memory and emotion and the healing effects of collective art making through simple meditative processes of wrapping and binding fabrics and yarns.
Community groups, schools and individuals are invited to participate in creating The Climbing Art Magic Plant, with the idea that groups will work together to each create a tendril or climbing branch for the plant, with the final installation involving participants working with Hiromi and also including a performance as part of the Remade 2014 – Sustainable Wearable Art Show on November 15th.
Art Magic is suitable for everyone, with opportunities to participate regardless of skill level or abilities. It is joyful, easy, fun, and inclusive.
