Scotch Oakburn College in Launceston created an amazing display !
The Wooltarts would like to thank the students and staff of the College for welcoming us to their school and allowing us to work with the Students and Staff. We thank also their Textiles Teacher – Mrs Felicity Brown. We had as much fun as the kids did, and really enjoyed the project.
The National Trust Tasmania asked Tasmanians to make some poppies for ANZAC DAY 2015. They could be crocheted, knitted or made of felt. The response was overwhelming, with thousands being made. They looked stunning!
Scotch Oakburn College Students in Launceston joined us in making the Poppies. The school went above and beyond. The staff alone made 490 poppies !! By 23rd April together the School had amassed 1001 poppies.
Some of the Wooltarts went to the College’s Penquite Road campus from mid-February to work with SOC Creative Textile students in Years 8, 9 & 10. We have worked with the students to show them how to make the poppies. We returned during Term 1 and again at the start of Term 2 on Thursday, 23rd April 2015. We really enjoyed working with the students & staff to create 5 Panels containing the Wooden Cross & 1001 Field Poppies for the display within the SOC school grounds; for all of us to appreciate and reflect upon with the upcoming 100th Gallipoli Remembrance services in 2015.

OTHER PATTERN (links below.. )
The pattern linked to below has proven to be a bit cumbersome for some to follow, so please use other patterns or modify to suit your knitting style as needed. (After following the pattern once, some of us are just decreasing or increasing as we usually do to create the shapes of the Red petals)
Please go to the Lion Brand Yarn Website for the pattern to create this beautiful Poppy:
